Challenge

Komatsu's clients include parts and service dealers that operate from more than 3,000 locations. Komatsu's clients and their customers need a fast and reliable way to track equipment, maintain an up-to-date parts inventory, and perform routine maintenance.

Clients are often constrained by physical locations. Job sites tend to be remote. Engineers and field crews depend on a variety of network connections.

Previously, Komatsu published four major parts and service manuals per year. Each manual contained detailed parts, service, and equipment information. Printing and paper costs were prohibitive, exceeding more than 30 million dollars per year. In addition, the manuals were bulky, inefficient, and ill-suited to customers' remote site requirements.

Clearly, a better solution was needed. Komatsu turned to Lizartech Software for help. Lizardtech recommended Document Express with DjVu to transform expensive and unwieldy paper manuals into vastly more efficient electronic files.
