Since Document Express with DjVu was installed, ALSTOM has seen a dramatic improvement in content management and distribution. Time-consuming, network-clogging PDF and TIFF files have been converted to dramatically smaller DjVu files that download instantly over any network connection and any device. Critical data moves into the hands of employees with ease, promoting collaboration and coordination between the UK office and users around the globe.
Alan Walker, IS Business Projects Manager for ALSTOM in Lincoln says, "We first looked at this as a solution for our scanned drawing library, but soon realized the potential in terms of distributing nearly all formats of documents. Microsoft PowerPoint files have become far more portable in this format, allowing us to distribute large presentations over the Web to our global audience."
ALSTOM's map library includes hundreds of thousands of TIFF files, each requiring storage for some 20 years or more. As Walker explains, "When we submitted a set of multiple document formats which previously consumed 250MB disk space, as DJVU files they consumed just 4MB, with the added benefit of being in one format. Of course, this was well received at the consumer end."
This software solution enables merging of multiple documents from various sources into one file, resulting in faster download times for the end user while preserving integrity of the information.
With Document Express, ALSTOM is empowered to respond more quickly to customer requests for information, knowing the end user will receive the information without delay, in exactly the right format for his or her needs. Document Express enables companies like ALSTOM to meet the challenge of building better customer relationships - a cornerstone for sustained growth and profitability.
